About the NLC

Family Violence Appellate Project’s New Leadership Council offers a unique opportunity to join a group of passionate young professionals who are committed to creating a better future for survivors of domestic violence. Membership offers a way to gain interesting leadership experience, give back to the community, diversify your professional network, and gain skills useful for later service on a board of directors.

Young professionals are invited to apply whether they are at law firms, in-house, non-profits or government, and we welcome non-lawyers as well. Unlike a board of directors, NLC members do not owe fiduciary duties to Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP), simplifying conflict-of-interests problems and other hurdles to board service.

Over the course of a two-year term on the NLC, members will:

  • Receive training on the benefits, duties and responsibilities of board membership;
  • Have the opportunity to attend one meeting of FVAP’s Board of Directors;
  • Help plan and execute FVAP’s annual battle of the bands fundraiser: Banding Together to End Domestic Violence;
  • Receive free access to FVAP’s pro bono attorney resources, including online webinars providing MCLE credit;
  • Be invited to participate in FVAP appellate moot courts and/or assist in screening cases for potential appeals.

For more information, email staff@fvaplaw.org.
