Dear Supporters,
Earlier this month, in collaboration with several of our community partners, FVAP took a pivotal step to ensure survivors can access justice by filing a lawsuit in the California Supreme Court. This legal action targets the Superior Courts of Contra Costa, Los Angeles, Santa Clara, and San Diego Counties to address the constitutional crisis stemming from the ongoing statewide court reporter shortage.
The absence of a verbatim (word-for-word) record makes it nearly impossible for litigants to appeal unfavorable decisions that could have serious consequences for their safety and their children. Many individuals, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, face barriers to accessing appellate courts simply because they cannot afford a private court reporter. This situation threatens the fundamental operation of our court system, where transcripts are crucial to appeal.
Join Us in Amplifying the Call for Change
We invite you to be a beacon of awareness by sharing information about our lawsuit and rallying support for the system change that survivors urgently need. Community partners and dedicated individuals like you are essential to FVAP as we work towards a fairer judicial system.
Thank you for your ongoing support in our mission to confront survivor injustice wherever it emerges. Onward,
Deborah |
