Domestic violence shelters protect the safety of their clients by keeping their information confidential. This training discusses several topics related to maintaining client confidentiality, including the laws prohibiting the disclosure of confidential client information, and the laws prohibiting the disclosure of a shelter’s confidential address. It also discusses the protections of the relevant California privilege laws, including the Domestic Violence Counselor-Victim Privilege, which apply when there is a court-related request for a victim’s confidential information.

All videos are free for survivors of domestic violence/intimate partner abuse and the people who support them; California nonprofit / legal aid employees; private attorneys currently representing a survivor of domestic violence pro bono in California; members of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence; and members of Legal Aid Association of California.
