This training provides an overview of the laws that protect domestic violence survivors and their children in California, and discusses the research on domestic violence that led to the passage of these laws. Importantly, this training talks about the effects of domestic violence on a child’s development, the importance of resiliency factors in a child’s life (for example, a supportive relationship with an adult); and the harmful effects of awarding child custody to the abusive parent.
