Family Violence Appellate Project (“FVAP”) is committed to respecting the privacy of its donors. FVAP collects information from donation forms donors complete at the time of providing their gift to FVAP, as well as checks and return addresses from donations sent via the mail and registration forms and comment forms a donor may fill out in connection with attending or reviewing FVAP programs or materials. The types of donor information that FVAP collects and maintains include:
- Contact information (including name, address, telephone number and email address)
- Giving information (including the amount or type of gift or beneficiary of a gift, and date of gift)
- Information on events attended, publications received and special requests for program information
- Information provided by the donor in the form of comments and suggestions
- For donations received by check, the information appearing on the face of the check, including account number and check number.
FVAP does not maintain donors’ credit card numbers for donations processed by credit card.
FVAP does not sell or lease its donor mailing lists, or any other donor information, to third parties or otherwise sell, trade, rent or exchange its donor lists with any other organization.
FVAP uses donors’ information to process donations and maintain accurate accounting records, and also uses donor information to compile and maintain a contact list to contact donors to provide updates regarding FVAP’s plans, activities, and funding needs. If a donor wishes to not be contacted by FVAP, he or she may send an email to staff@fvaplaw.org to be removed from FVAP’s contact list.
FVAP may also use donor information to better understand the donors’ interests in FVAP’s mission. Such information is shared with staff, Board members, volunteers and consultants only on a “need-to-know” basis.
In addition to the above uses, donor information limited to each respective donor’s first and last name, and the amount and date of donation, may be published in FVAP’s Annual Report. The donor list published in the annual report is one of the many ways in which FVAP recognizes its donors and shows appreciation to its donors for their generous contributions to FVAP and its mission. For those who do not wish to be included in FVAP’s annual report, they may contact the Development Director at staff@fvaplaw.org to request their donations be listed as anonymous or kept confidential.
FVAP may share your information with third-party service providers only to the extent necessary to carry out the uses above. This includes sharing information with third-party payment processing providers to process donations or companies that provide data processing, advertising, e-mail, distribution or other services to FVAP. In such cases, FVAP only shares information necessary for the third-party service provider to perform its specific function.
If you have any comments or questions about FVAP’s donor-privacy policy, please contact staff@fvaplaw.org.
