Survivor Requesting Representation
FVAP represents survivors of domestic and other forms of gender-based violence in challenging family or civil court orders in the California appeals courts. This representation is provided for free, to ensure that no Californian is barred from the protection of the courts due to income. This means if you get an order from one of these courts that you disagree with, we can review the order and let you know if we can help you challenge it.
Can FVAP Help Me?
- I have experienced domestic violence, intimate partner abuse, sexual assault, elder abuse, human trafficking or stalking.
- I have a family court or civil court order I want to challenge, or I am defending against an appeal or writ petition.
- The order I want to challenge was issued by a California court, and is less than 6 months old.
Attorney or Advocate Requesting Assistance
FVAP provides technical legal assistance to advocates and attorneys helping survivors with civil legal issues. This means FVAP can give attorneys and advocates tailored information and resources to help them represent or help their survivor clients navigate legal issues pertaining to DVROs, child custody and visitation, housing, support and other family and civil law matters.
