Giving survivors a second chance at justice
Sam* has been married to her husband for more than a decade. Over the course of their marriage, Sam’s husband physically, sexually, and emotionally abused her. Her experience highlights that sexual abuse is often one of many forms of abuse that people experience at the hands of an intimate partner. Sam decided to get a restraining order, but the court made the order last a much shorter time than she asked. Sam also requested that their children be included on the order for their protection, but that was denied.
In April 2021, FVAP and our co-counsel, Law Offices of David C. Beavans, went to court to challenge the failure to include the children on the restraining order on Sam’s behalf.
