How to Lay a Record for Appeal – for Attorneys

This training will help attorneys understand the basics of obtaining an appealable order, making a clear record of error and prejudice for appeal, introducing evidence, requesting a statement of decision, and filing a timely notice of appeal.  This training is meant for attorneys; non-attorneys, including DV advocates and survivors representing themselves, should check out the version of this training for non-attorneys here.  You can find PDF documents of the PowerPoint slidedeck and other accompanying materials below the training video.

Presenters: FVAP Legal Fellow Cory Hernandez, Esq.

Closed captioning available.

For more information about Statements of Decision, see our training entitled “Requesting Statements of Decision in Family Law & Domestic Violence Cases (2017)” and view our toolkits on Getting a Court’s Reasons for Making a Family Court Order on our Self-Help Legal Tools page.
